The fix. Book through Discover Qatar or carry the host's Qatar ID and address.
Indian citizens do not need a visa for Qatar: since 2017 they receive a free visa waiver on arrival for 30 days, extendable once by 30 days, on showing a passport valid 6 months, a confirmed return or onward ticket and a hotel booking made through the Discover Qatar platform or a host's address. Since the 2022 World Cup the Hayya platform pre-registers arrivals and issues the A1 entry permit (QAR 100) for nationalities that need it, and Indians can register for convenience. The waiver covers tourism, family visits, business meetings and transit; paid work, study and residence need the sponsored visas on the other Qatar route pages. Overstays are fined QAR 200 a day.
Do Indians need a visa for Qatar? No. Indian passport holders get a free visa waiver stamped on arrival at Hamad International Airport or the land border, valid 30 days and extendable once by 30 days on Metrash2, provided the passport is valid 6 months, you hold a confirmed return or onward ticket and show a hotel booking (Discover Qatar-registered hotel) or a host's details. The waiver suits tourism, family visits, business meetings and conferences. Indians resident in the GCC and holders of US, UK, Schengen, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand visas may also use the Hayya A1 permit, but the waiver is simpler.
What does it cost? Nothing for the waiver itself. Hayya registration is free; the Hayya A1 tourist entry permit costs QAR 100 (about INR 2,300) and is needed only by nationalities without visa-free entry or by Indians who prefer a pre-approved permit. Extensions on Metrash2 are free for the first 30 days beyond the initial stay. Mandatory health insurance for visitors (QAR 50 for 30 days) applies on entry since 2023. Vistolane lists these at the official rate and shows its service separately.
How long does it take? The waiver is granted at the immigration counter in a few minutes; Hayya A1 permits are approved in 1 to 3 days. Qatar Airways and other carriers check the return ticket and hotel booking at check-in, so arrange them before travel.

The Doha winter (November to March) and school holidays are busiest; hotels for events such as the Formula 1 and the Web Summit Qatar sell out early.
Visitors may attend meetings, sign contracts and tour the country but may not be employed or paid in Qatar; family visitors staying longer than 60 days switch to the family visit visa covered on the Qatar family visit route page, and workers arrive on the employer-sponsored work visa described on the Qatar work route page. Alcohol is sold only in licensed hotels, and drone, photography and dress rules apply at religious and government sites.
