Looking for an iVisa alternative? How to choose a visa service that is worth the fee

Most visa services charge for filling in a form you could complete yourself. The useful ones catch the errors that get applications refused and stand behind a date. Here is how to tell the difference before you pay.

What you are actually paying for

Online visa services sit between you and a government portal. For a simple e-visa the form takes twenty minutes and the government fee is fixed, so a service that only re-types your answers adds cost without value. The useful work is different: catching the mismatch between your bank statement and your declared salary, spotting a passport that expires too soon, booking the biometrics slot that fits your travel date, and telling you before you pay that the file is not ready.

If you are comparing iVisa, Atlys, VFS's own paid services or any other provider, judge them on that work, not on the glossiness of the form.

Six questions to ask before you pay

  • Is the government fee shown separately, at the official rate? It should be. The government fee is non-refundable and goes straight to the authority; bundling it hides the service margin.
  • What exactly is checked before filing? Ask whether a person reviews the file, whether documents are checked against the destination's published rules, and what happens if something is wrong.
  • What is guaranteed, precisely? "Approval guaranteed" is a red flag; no service controls a government decision. A credible guarantee is about the provider's own performance: documents verified by a date, filed by a date, or a decision by a quoted date.
  • What is refunded, and when? Read the terms. A refund of the service fee if the provider misses its own date is meaningful. A refund "if refused" that excludes the government fee and most refusal grounds is not.
  • Who handles complex cases? Work, study and family visas, past refusals and sponsorship routes need licensed advice in most countries (OISC in the UK, CICC in Canada, MARA in Australia). Ask who signs the filing.
  • Where do the rules come from? A service that cites the official source for each requirement, with a last-verified date, is checking its facts. One that does not is guessing.

How Vistolane is priced

Vistolane shows two components on every destination page: the government fee at the official rate and a fixed Vistolane filing fee per destination. Both come from one live price source, the same one that feeds the price cards, the quick answers and the checkout, so you never see two different totals for the same product. Two optional tiers add a percentage of the filing fee: Concierge, where a named specialist prepares and reviews the file with you, and Max attention, where a licensed partner handles the filing end to end. The filing-only price is always shown first as "from".

Every application runs automated document checks before a specialist review, and every file carries a quoted decision date shown before you pay. Decision by the date we quote, or your Vistolane fee back. We can't guarantee approval; no one can. Government fees are never refunded, by Vistolane or by anyone else, and the guarantee terms spell out exactly what counts as a reason on our side.

Before you choose any service

Run the free eligibility check. It takes two minutes, needs no account and tells you whether the file is ready. If it is, compare the destination's live fee and timeline with whatever quote you have been given, and ask the six questions above. If it is not, no service, ours included, should take your money yet.

Questions, answered

Can a visa service guarantee approval?

No. Governments decide visas. Any service that promises approval is either misleading you or planning to refund a fee you will not get back from the consulate. Look for a guarantee about the service's own performance, such as the filing or decision date.

Why is the government fee shown separately?

Because it goes to the government at the official rate and is never refunded. A service that bundles it into one price makes it impossible to see what you are paying for the service itself.

Is a cheaper visa service worse?

Not necessarily. Price should track what is done: document checks, specialist review, appointment handling. A high price for an e-visa form with no review is poor value; a low price for a sticker visa with biometrics and a specialist review is rare.

What does Vistolane charge?

The government fee at the official rate plus a fixed filing fee per destination, shown live from one price source. Concierge and Max attention tiers add a percentage of the filing fee for a named specialist or a licensed partner handling the file.

What happens if Vistolane misses the quoted date?

Decision by the date we quote, or your Vistolane fee back. We can't guarantee approval; no one can. The government fee is never refunded by anyone.
