Requirements are a passport valid 6 months, a return ticket, a hotel booking and travel insurance.
The short version with the price card and checklist is on the Oman tourist visa route page. This article is the long version: which of the four options fits your passport and plans, fees, the exemption conditions, documents, the timeline and the reasons Indian travellers are refused or fined.
Do Indians need a visa for Oman?
Yes, unless they qualify for the 14-day exemption. The Oman visa for Indians on a short trip is the ROP tourist eVisa, required for tourism, visiting friends, business meetings and transit stays outside the airport. Oman introduced the eVisa in 2018, extended the 10-day OMR 5 visa to Indians holding Western visas and, from 2020, added the 14-day visa-free entry for the same group, making Muscat, Salalah and Musandam an easy add-on to a Gulf or Europe itinerary. Indians without a qualifying visa use the OMR 20 thirty-day visa.
The tourist visa does not allow work or study. Jobs need the employment visa in the Oman employment visa guide, relatives of residents use the family joining visa in the Oman family joining visa guide, and investors can obtain sponsor-free residence through the Oman investor residency guide.

Which option fits which traveller?
| Option | Who qualifies | Stay | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14-day visa-free entry | Indians with a valid US, UK, Schengen, Canadian, Australian or Japanese visa or residence, or GCC residence in an approved profession | 14 days, no extension | Short holidays and stopovers |

The qualifying visa for the exemption and the OMR 5 visa must be valid on arrival; an expired Schengen visa does not count. GCC residents in professions the ROP lists (managers, engineers, doctors, accountants and similar) may also use the exemption with their resident card.
What documents does the Oman eVisa need?
eVisa application. A passport scan valid 6 months from arrival, a digital photo on a white background, the return or onward flight booking, a hotel booking or host's address, travel insurance covering the stay and, for the OMR 5 visa, a scan of the qualifying US, UK, Schengen, Canadian, Australian or Japanese visa or residence card.
At the border. The printed or saved eVisa, the passport, the return ticket, the hotel booking and, for the 14-day exemption, the qualifying visa and insurance. Officers may ask for evidence of funds, typically OMR 300 for a week's stay. The travel document checklist helps you assemble these before you book.
How does the application run?
- Choose the option: the 14-day exemption or the OMR 5 visa if you hold a qualifying visa, otherwise the OMR 20 thirty-day visa.
- Register on evisa.rop.gov.om, complete the form, upload the passport, photo and documents and pay by card.
- Wait 1 to 5 working days; the eVisa arrives by email and can be checked on the portal.
- Fly to Muscat or Salalah, or cross by road from the UAE at Hatta or Al Ain; present the eVisa or exemption evidence; the officer stamps the stay.
- Extend once on the ROP portal before day 30 if needed; leave before the stamp expires.
How long does an Oman visa take?

| Border | Minutes | eVisa or exemption documents |
| Stay | 10, 14 or 30 days | By option |
| Extension | Same day | OMR 20 on the ROP portal |
| Validity to enter | 30 days from issue | Single entry unless the OMR 50 visa |
December to February is the busiest season for Indian visitors to Muscat and Salalah's khareef in July and August draws Gulf residents; apply earlier in those months.
What are the rules during the stay?
Tourists may travel freely, drive on an Indian or international licence for the visa period, and cross into the UAE and back on a multiple-entry visa or a new eVisa. Work, study and residence are prohibited, and immigration officers refuse entry to travellers who appear to be using repeated tourist visas to live or work in Oman. Overstays are fined OMR 10 a day at departure and can bring a ban; the 10-day visa and the 14-day exemption have no extension, so travellers who want longer stays should choose the OMR 20 visa from the start.
Why are Oman eVisas refused or travellers turned back, and what fixes each reason?
Qualifying visa not valid. Expired or unused US, UK or Schengen visa used for the OMR 5 visa or the exemption. Apply for the OMR 20 visa instead.
Passport validity short. Under 6 months at arrival. Renew before applying.
Photo or data rejected. Non-white background or a name that differs from the passport. Match the passport and use a compliant photo.
No return ticket or hotel. One-way ticket or no accommodation evidence at the border. Carry confirmed bookings.
Previous overstay or labour ban. Earlier fine or ban from a work visa. Check the status with the ROP before paying.

Can Indians enter Oman visa-free?
Yes, for 14 days, if they hold a valid visa or residence permit from the US, UK, a Schengen state, Canada, Australia or Japan, together with a return ticket, a hotel booking and travel insurance; the exemption also covers GCC residents in approved professions. The 14 days cannot be extended, so travellers planning longer stays use the OMR 20 eVisa.
How long does an Oman eVisa take?
One to 5 working days on evisa.rop.gov.om; most Indian applications are approved within 48 hours outside the December to February peak. Apply 1 to 2 weeks before travel and print or save the eVisa for the airline and the border. The [processing times page](/processing-times) tracks current turnaround.
Is there a visa on arrival for Indians in Oman?

Can I extend my Oman tourist visa?
Yes. The 30-day tourist eVisa can be extended once by 30 days for OMR 20 on the ROP portal or at a Royal Oman Police directorate before it expires, giving 60 days in total. The 10-day visa and the 14-day exemption cannot be extended. Overstaying is fined OMR 10 a day at departure.
