India e-Visa government fees by nationality
The Indian portal charges the e-Visa fee in US dollars and the amount depends on the passport, not on where you live. The table shows the official MHA fee per traveller before the 3% bank transaction charge; open your passport's page for the same figures in your currency, the Vistolane fee and the all-in total.

What the Indian e-Visa is
The e-Visa is an electronic travel authorisation issued by India's Ministry of Home Affairs for tourism, business, medical treatment and conferences. It is applied for online, approved by e-mail (usually within 72 hours) and stamped into the passport on arrival at one of the designated airports or seaports. Three tourist validities exist: 30 days (double entry), 1 year and 5 years (multiple entry); business and medical e-Visas run for a year and 60 days respectively.
- Passport valid six months from arrival with two blank pages
- Apply 4 to 30 days before arrival (30-day visa) or 4 to 120 days before (all others)
- Upload a passport scan (PDF, 10 to 300 KB) and a square white-background photo (JPEG, 350 × 350 px or more)
- Enter through a designated e-Visa airport or seaport; leave from any check post
- Not extendable, not convertible; regular visa needed for study, work, journalism and long stays
What Vistolane does for a fixed fee
- Checks the file before filing. The passport scan and photo are read by the same checker used on 52 outbound routes; rejections for photo or scan faults are the most common e-Visa problem and are fixed with you first.
- Files and pays the government fee. The application is lodged on indianvisaonline.gov.in, the fee and 3% bank charge are paid for you and the application ID is on your case page the same day.
- Tracks the decision. Status checks until the ETA lands, with the approval stored on your case; if the government refuses a filed application the Vistolane fee is refunded in full.
The Vistolane fee is set 20% below the published price of the large online visa agencies for the same e-Visa and never changes with the exchange rate: the US-dollar amount is fixed and converted to your currency on the day you pay.
Questions, answered
Who can apply for an India e-Visa?
Citizens of about 170 countries holding an ordinary passport, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, the UAE, Germany, France and Singapore, for tourism, business, medical treatment or conferences. Diplomatic and official passports and persons of Pakistani origin must apply for a regular visa at an Indian mission.
How much is the India e-Visa?
The government fee depends on your passport: for most nationalities US$25 for 30 days (US$10 for arrivals between April and June), US$40 for one year and US$200 for five years, with the United States at US$160 and the United Kingdom at US$484 for the 5-year visa. The portal adds a 3% bank charge. Vistolane's fixed fee is US$23 to US$39 depending on the visa.
How long does the India e-Visa take to be approved?
Usually within 72 hours of a complete application. The Ministry of Home Affairs asks that the fee is paid at least four days before the date of arrival; Vistolane recommends filing two to three weeks ahead when you can.
Is the India e-Visa a visa on arrival?
No. The approval (ETA) must be issued before you board; airlines check it at check-in. On arrival at a designated airport immigration takes biometrics and stamps the e-Visa into the passport.
Can I pay the India e-Visa fee in my own currency?
The Indian portal charges in US dollars. Vistolane quotes and collects the total in your currency (GBP, CAD, AUD, AED, EUR or SGD) at the live rate and pays the portal for you, so there is one payment and one receipt.
What happens if my e-Visa is rejected?
The government fee and bank charge are not refunded by the Indian portal. If Vistolane filed the application, the Vistolane fee is refunded in full and the team tells you whether a regular visa at the mission is the right next step.
