Visa photo checker

Check a visa photo in your browser against the 35x45 mm and 2x2 in specs: resolution, ratio, background and file size. The photo never leaves your device.

What the photo checker tests

Upload a photo and the checker measures it in your browser: resolution (at least 600 by 600 pixels), aspect ratio against the 35 by 45 mm standard used by the Schengen states, the UK and India or the 2 by 2 inch standard used by the United States and Canada, background brightness (plain white or off-white) and file size for online uploads. The image is processed locally and never leaves your device.

Why photos get rejected

Photo problems are the most common reason an e-visa is sent back for correction and the easiest to avoid. Consulates compare the photo with the passport biometric page and with the image captured at biometrics, so the face must be fully visible, evenly lit and recent.

  • Shadows on the face or background
  • Glasses, hats or hair covering the eyebrows
  • Smiling or an open mouth
  • Photo older than six months or reused from the previous passport
  • Low resolution scans of a printed photo

Questions, answered

Can I take a visa photo with my phone?

Yes, if the background is plain, the lighting is even and the final crop meets the size and resolution rules. The checker measures the crop; a photo studio is safer for embassy visas.

Is the 35 x 45 mm photo the same as a passport photo?

In most countries yes; the UK, Schengen and Indian passport photos use the same frame. The United States uses 2 x 2 inches for both passports and visas.

Does the checker verify biometric compliance?

It checks the measurable rules: size, ratio, resolution, background and file size. It does not replace the consulate's own biometric assessment.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The analysis runs in your browser and the file is discarded when you close the page.

What size should a visa photo be?

35 by 45 millimetres for the UK, Schengen states, India and most of Asia; 2 by 2 inches (51 by 51 millimetres) for the USA. The checker tests both specifications.

Does the photo leave my device?

No. The checker measures resolution, aspect ratio, background brightness and file size in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

Can I wear glasses in a visa photo?

The USA, UK and Schengen states do not allow glasses. Head coverings are accepted for religious reasons only when the full face from chin to forehead is visible.

How recent must the photo be?

Taken within the last six months and showing your current appearance. Reusing the photo from a previous passport or visa is a common reason for a request to re-submit.
