Do Nepalis need a visa?
Verified rules for Nepal passport holders across 51 destinations, grouped by what you need before you fly.
Nepal passport: the picture at a glance
51 destinations are verified for Nepalis: 1 visa-free, 1 with a visa on arrival, 14 with an e-visa or electronic travel authorisation to approve before boarding, and 35 that need a visa applied for in advance. The table lists each destination with the rule and the allowed stay; every row opens a one-question page with the verified answer, the official source and what to carry.
Rules are written for ordinary passports and tourism or short business visits. Study, work, family and residence routes have their own requirements on the destination page, and some rules change with your residence permit or a valid visa for a third country; where that applies the destination page says so.

How to read the table
- Visa-free: no visa and no online form; the allowed stay is counted from the entry stamp
- Visa on arrival: issued at the border for a fee, usually in cash or by card; some countries also let you pre-apply online
- E-visa or ETA: applied for online and approved before boarding; airlines check the approval at check-in
- Visa required: a sticker or consulate visa applied for before travel, often with biometrics at a visa application centre
Questions, answered
Which countries can Nepalis visit without a visa?
Of the 51 destinations verified for Nepal passport holders, 1 admit Nepalis visa-free: Singapore. Each entry shows the allowed stay and links to the official rule.
Where do Nepalis get a visa on arrival or an e-visa?
Visa on arrival: Maldives. E-visa or electronic travel authorisation approved before boarding: Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cambodia, Indonesia (Bali), New Zealand, Qatar, Tanzania, Türkiye, Vietnam, Kenya and Sri Lanka. An e-visa is not a visa on arrival: the approval must exist before the airline lets you fly.
Which destinations require Nepalis to apply for a visa in advance?
Argentina, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Schengen Area, Bhutan, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, Georgia, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Mauritius, Mexico, Morocco, Oman, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States require a sticker or consulate visa applied for before travel. How are these rules verified?
Every rule is checked against the issuing government's own page (immigration authority, ministry of foreign affairs or official e-visa portal) by the Vistolane operations team, dated, and re-checked when the source changes; the latest verification for Nepal passports is 2026-11-05. Airline and visa-agency summaries are never used as the source.
Travelling on a Nepali passport: what the verified rules show
Nepali citizens have two notable visa-free destinations in the table: Singapore admits them for up to 30 days with the SG Arrival Card, and the Maldives issues a free 30-day visa on arrival to every nationality. Travel to India is open under the 1950 treaty and is not listed here because India is not one of the 52 destinations Vistolane files for. Contrary to a common assumption, Thailand and Malaysia are not visa-free for Nepali passports: Thailand needs a tourist visa through the Thai e-Visa portal and Malaysia an eVISA plus the Digital Arrival Card. Other online routes are Kenya's eTA, Sri Lanka's paid ETA, Vietnam's e-visa, Tanzania's ordinary visa and the visitor visas of Australia and New Zealand; Turkey's e-visa requires a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa.
The Gulf labour corridors run on employment visas arranged by the sponsor, and tourist entry to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar is through a sponsor, hotel or the Hayya platform rather than on arrival. The Schengen area, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong all require a visa in advance with biometrics. The destination pages carry the fee, the decision window and the document list for those routes, and the eligibility check indicates whether a profile fits before any fee is paid.
Every rule on this page is read from the destination government's immigration authority or official e-visa portal and dated. Visa schemes for Nepali passports are often time-limited and renewed year by year, so the verification date is the first thing to check before booking a non-refundable ticket.
