Do Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa?
Yes. Indian citizens need a Schengen short-stay (type C) visa before travelling to the Schengen Area for tourism, to visit family or friends, or for short business meetings. A Schengen visa is a sticker visa issued by the consulate of the country you spend most nights in. Vistolane prepares your file to the consulate's checklist and books your VFS appointment; you attend in person for biometrics and submission and pay the visa fee and the VFS service charge at the centre. Entries and validity are decided by the consulate.
The application is made in person at the visa application centre (VFS Global, BLS International or TLScontact) of the country where you will spend the most nights, with fingerprints taken at the appointment. France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland and most other Schengen states use VFS Global or BLS International centres in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Kochi and more. Appointments in peak season (April to June) fill weeks ahead; applications can be lodged up to six months before travel.

Schengen visa processing time
home-affairs.ec.europa.eu publishes a processing time of 7–15 days for the Schengen short-stay (type C) visa. Vistolane quotes 7–17 days including its own safety buffer and guarantees the date the file is lodged. Appointment availability adds to this in peak season, so the appointment is the first thing we book.
Validity: Up to 90 days in any 180-day period across all Schengen countries. Frequent travellers with a clean history are issued multiple-entry visas valid for one to five years under the cascade rules.

- Lodge and track. The file is lodged by the guaranteed date. Every status change appears in your portal and by WhatsApp or e-mail; you can see exactly where the application is at any time.
- Decision and travel. When the visa is issued we check the details against your passport and itinerary, and tell you what to carry at the border.
Why Schengen visas get refused, and how we prevent it
Most Schengen refusals for Indian applicants trace back to the file, not the applicant. The patterns below come from refusal letters handled on the platform.
- Applying at the wrong consulate (not the main destination or first entry point)
- Hotel bookings that leave nights uncovered or do not match the itinerary
- Insurance that starts a day late or covers too little
- Bank balance that does not support the daily costs for the length of the trip
A refusal is not a ban. Vistolane reads the refusal letter, fixes the stated reason and re-files with a short cover note, usually within the same week.

Questions, answered
How much is a Schengen visa from India?
The Schengen visa fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged six to eleven, paid in rupees at the application centre, plus the centre's service charge. The fee is the same for every Schengen country. Vistolane's preparation fee is fixed and shown before you start.
How long does a Schengen visa take?
Consulates decide most applications within 15 calendar days of the appointment; this can extend to 45 days when extra checks are needed. Vistolane books the earliest appointment and quotes a lodging date it guarantees.
Which Schengen country should I apply to?
The country where you will spend the most nights. If the stay is split equally, apply to the country you enter first. Applying to the wrong consulate is a common reason for a refused or returned file, so Vistolane checks the itinerary before booking.
Do I need travel insurance for a Schengen visa?
Yes. A policy with at least EUR 30,000 medical and repatriation cover, valid in all Schengen states for every day of the trip, is mandatory. Vistolane checks the dates and cover before the appointment.
Can I track my visa application?
Yes. Every Schengen application filed through Vistolane has a live status in your portal, from document check to lodgement to decision, with WhatsApp and e-mail alerts at each step. You can also see the guaranteed filing date and the published processing window.
